Summer 2020 Service Trip: More Information

The Schedule

Below is a general outline of what to expect while you are in Mexico:

Wednesday, 5:45 p.m.
Dinner will be served at the Ranch in Tecate, Mexico at 5:45 pm.   A group meeting follows dinner.

Thursday, Friday, & Saturday

Two buses will leave for work site at 7:00 am and 8:00 am. Work hard all day. Lunch is provided at work site.  Stop work at 4:00 pm, back at ranch around 5:00 pm. Clean up, swim and eat delicious Mexican dinner at the ranch.

We are working to coordinate time with a local primary school on Friday afternoon. Last year our team hosted an afternoon of crafts and games. On Saturday we also shared pancakes with neighbors and enjoyed crafts and games at the work site.

Lively group fun in the evenings back at the Ranch!

Sunday
Breakfast at the ranch, leave ranch by 10:00 am.

Trip Orientation Meeting

If you live in the Santa Cruz area, we require everyone going on the trip to attend the orientation meeting. This is NOT an informational meeting to help you decide whether you want to come or not.  This is the pre-trip ORIENTATION meeting for registered people going on the trip. The Trip Orientation meeting will be Monday, May 11th , 6:00-8:00 pm at Peace United Church.

Transportation

You are responsible for your passage to and from Tecate, Mexico.

If you drive your vehicle into Mexico, be sure to purchase Mexico auto insurance for the days you will be in Mexico.  Insurance from a Mexican company is required by Mexican law in the event of an accident, even if you are not at fault.

Insurance greatly reduces the chances that you will face jail time if you are involved in an accident while driving in Mexico. Insurance provides some coverage for damage to your vehicle or it's total loss if you buy the complete coverage as shown on the link below.  For more information for Auto and Health
Insurance while in Mexico click on Baja Bound.  (http://www.bajabound.com/)

Donations

In addition to the registration fee, we encourage you (as an individual, a church group or a corporation) to partner with us and donate financially towards the cost of materials used in constructing these homes.
Each house, latrine and cement pad and labor costs approximately $9,500 - so we need to raise $19,000 for the two houses.  All donations are 100% tax deductible.  You can donate funds via GoFundMe, or at any time to Peace UCC (include Tecate Materials in the memo).
