Our Partners in Peacemaking

CHARTER FOR COMPASSION (SANTA CRUZ) strives to promote compassion within individuals, families and the entire Santa Cruz community. By creating awareness of our common humanity and fostering connections between citizens and organizations, we seek to make Santa Cruz a more prosperous, cohesive and compassionate place.  We are linked to the international Charter for Compassion movement (founded by scholar Karen Armstrong).

THE RESOURCE CENTER FOR NONVIOLENCE, founded in 1976, is a peace and justice organization promoting the practice of nonviolent social change. Located in Santa Cruz, California, we cultivate relationships with allies around California, across the United States, in Latin America, the Middle East and elsewhere. Our primary mission is to support the growth of nonviolent activists. The Center hosts activists and analysts from nonviolent struggles around the world. And the Center is a venue for social change groups and non-profit organizations to conduct meetings and public events in its 200-seat Scott Kennedy Hall or its Community Room.

NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION provides classes, workshop and support for individuals, couple and communities seeking a deeper practice.  In Gandhi’s language, the essence of nonviolence, or ahimsa, is the force of love in action. Out of this age-old spirit comes a practice of deep listening to others and to ourselves. Through that practice comes a deeper, more compassionate connection to others, and an ability to more authentically address our own needs.

PEACE UNITED has a longstanding commitment to building coalitions for peace in the Middle East.  Many of our members and friends have traveled in the region, particularly in Israel and Palestine, and collaborate broadly for greater understanding and prophetic action.  These organizations are special allies in that work.
